Report something

Reporting sends something to the people who moderate nicagram. It is the only action on this page that a human reads.

How to report

1. Open the menu on the post, comment or profile — the button with the dots.
2. Choose Report.
3. Pick the category that fits best.
4. Add a short note if there is something a moderator would not see for themselves. It helps more than picking a perfect category.

You can report a post, a comment, a profile or a group.

The categories

• Spam — repetitive, commercial or automated posting.
• Sensitive content — nudity or graphic material posted without a content warning.
• Abusive or harmful — harassment, threats or hate.
• Underage account — an account that appears to belong to somebody below the minimum age.
• Copyright — your work posted by somebody else.
• Impersonation — an account pretending to be you or somebody else.
• Scam — fraud, phishing or a confidence trick.
• Terrorism — terrorist or violent extremist content.

What happens next

The report goes into the moderation queue for nicagram. A moderator can remove the content, add a content warning, limit the account or suspend it. You are not told the outcome, and the account is not told who reported it.

If the account is on another server, this server's moderators can act on what is visible here — hiding it, or blocking that server entirely. What happens to the account itself is up to the moderators where it lives.

Reporting is not blocking

A report reaches a moderator; it does not change what you see. If you also want them gone from your timeline right now, block or mute them as well. The two are independent and doing both is normal.

If somebody is in danger

Contact your local emergency services first. Then report it here, so that moderators can preserve what is there before it is deleted. The operators of nicagram can be reached directly from the contact page.
