How do I create a post?

Open https://nicagram.com and choose the compose button — the camera at the top of the page on a desktop browser, the plus at the bottom on a phone. Upload your photos or videos, add a caption if you want one, set the other options, and press Create post.

How do I put several photos or videos in one post?

Select more than one file at once while composing, or add them one at a time. They become a single post with a gallery.

How do I add a caption?

The compose screen has a caption box. Captions are optional and have a length limit set by this server; the compose screen shows it as you type.

How do I add a filter?

While composing, open Options if the media preview is not showing, and choose from the filter list.

Filters are applied to the copy shown here. They are not part of what federates to other servers, so somebody following you from elsewhere may see the unfiltered image.

How do I describe a photo for people who cannot see it?

Each attachment in the composer has a media description field. Write what is in the picture and why it is there.

Descriptions do federate: they are sent to other servers and shown wherever the software supports them. This is the one field on the compose screen that decides whether some of your followers can use the post at all.

What can I upload?

This server accepts these kinds of post:

image/jpeg
image/png
image/gif
image/webp
image/avif
image/heic

Individual file size and resolution limits are set by this server and shown when an upload is refused.

How do I turn comments off on a post?

Open the post's menu — the dots — and choose Disable comments. The same menu turns them back on.

How many people can I tag or mention?

Up to five profiles per post or comment. Tagging is separate from mentioning; see tagging people.

What does archiving do?

Archiving hides a post from everyone, including you, without deleting it. Nobody can view or interact with an archived post.

An archived post cannot be deleted or interacted with while it is archived, and interactions from other servers — comments, likes, shares — may not reach you while it is. Unarchive it first.

How do I archive a post?

Go to the post.
Open its menu — the dots.
Choose Archive.

How do I unarchive a post?

Go to your profile.
Open the Archives tab.
Find the post.
Open its menu and choose Unarchive.
