Import
Import from Instagram brings your photos, captions and hashtags across to nicagram, so that moving does not mean starting from nothing.
Getting your data out of Instagram
- Request a download of your information from Instagram's Accounts Centre, at instagram.com/download/request. Choose the JSON format — the importer cannot read the HTML export.
- Wait for Instagram's e-mail with the download link.
- Download the .zip export.
- Open import settings here.
- Follow the instructions and import your posts.
Limits
Importing is bounded, because it is the one feature that lets one account create thousands of posts in a minute. The import settings page shows the numbers in force on nicagram; the limits themselves are:
- Maximum posts — how many posts one import may create.
- Maximum attempts — how many imports may be started, counted per day.
- Video imports — whether video posts are imported at all, or only photos.
Who may import
Operators can restrict importing, because it is expensive in storage and in moderation. The restrictions available to them are:
- Admins only.
- Admins and the accounts they follow.
- A minimum account age, in days.
- A minimum follower count.
If the import page refuses you, one of those is why, and only the operators can change it.
If an import gets stuck
Imports run in the background and a large one takes a while. If nothing has appeared after a day, ask the admins from the contact page — a failed import leaves a trace in the server's logs that you cannot see and they can.
